The Sudbury Wolves have granted Owen Lalonde’s trade request, sending the young blueliner to the Guelph Storm.

In return, Sudbury receives defenseman Nolan Makkonen and six draft picks, all of which are second and third round picks.

Lalonde scored a pair of goals and 12 points in 64 games during his rookie season in Subdury, the Wolves selected him second overall in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. He won a silver medal with Team Canada Black at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

A graduate of the Windsor Jr Spitfires ‘AAA’ program, Lalonde was the ALLIANCE Minor Midget Player of the year for the 2015-2016 season.

With Ryan Merkley already on the Storm blueline, Guelph now has the top two picks from the 2016 draft.

The Storm continue to stock pile young talent, as the team received the commitment from Cam Hillis earlier this month. He was a second round pick in the 2016 draft, but likely would have went higher if not for his interest in the NCAA route. He decommitted from Province College to join the Storm.

Lalonde, Merkley and Hillis are all eligible for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

In the Lalonde trade, Sudbury receives the following six draft picks:

  • Windsor’s 2nd Round pick in 2018
  • Windsor’s 3rd Round pick 2018
  • Peterborough’s 2nd Round pick 2019
  • Sault Ste. Marie’s 3rd Round pick in 2021
  • Conditional – Windsor’s 2nd Round pick in 2019
  • Conditional – Guelph’s 2nd Round pick in 2021
